Highlights of the Chelsea Fringe 2022
The Chelsea Flower Show’s rebellious younger sibling continues to grow in strength with a series of alternative garden-themed events held internationally – including art installations, poetry readings and meditation – that delight and intrigue in equal measure. Photograph Paul Debois
Here are just a few of the many events that will be hosted over the course of the Chelsea Fringe Festival, 21-29 May 2022.

1 .Webs, threads, roots and fibres in the Scottish landscape
Panels of woven plants and fibres will transform a suburban front garden in Edinburgh. All can be viewed from the public pavement.

2. Picture! Picture! Seattle!
For the first time, the US city of Seattle is hosting events for the Fringe. Among the more unusual is a series of 25 disarming images of Miles Nevler, who has posed as horticultural heros, including Daniel J Hinkley and Vita Sackville-West, that will be displayed on random telephone poles in the International District of downtown Seattle. If Seattle is a little too far to travel, you can always view the images online.

3. The Wild Collective
An artistic collaboration nurturing creative responses to nature. Hosted in the gardens and glasshouses of Omved gardens in Highgate.
When: 24 - 29 May, Tuesday to Friday 12pm-5pm, Saturday-Sunday 11am-5pm

4. Living Skeletons
Photography exhibition that showcases the champions of our ecosystem - the plant structures that are wildlife oases throughout the colder months.

5. A visual joy of botanical prints on clay
Seattle based ceramic artist Laura Brodax opens her studio doors for the Chelsea Fringe to showcase her botanically inspired ceramics.

6. BTG Dog Show
Blackstock Triangle Gardeners are hosting their second Dog Show. There will be canine prizes up for grabs as well as free plants, seeds and oodles of coffee and cakes.

7. Shakespeare in the wild: urban forest bathing
The Botanical Shakespeare team have created an immersive indoor nature experience that will inspire guests to interact with the nature in urban environments.

8. A pop up garden to stimulate your senses
For Mental Health Awareness Month and in celebration of the Chelsea Fringe and the Jubilee, the Northbank BID has created a sensory garden for the local community.

9. Music garden party
Listen to different genres of music – from a swing band to a renaissance choir – as you explore through the different areas of the Olden Community Garden, a two-acre green space in Islington, with woodland, orchard and vegetable gardens. Tickets £5, cash only.

10. Poems from the heart of the urban forest
Poets from Southwark & Greenwich Poetry Stanza groups will give readings of poems about growth and regeneration, celebrating life within London’s urban forest.
When: 28 May, 11am-4pm.
