Fibrex Nurseries, the highly respected and much loved nursery that specialises in pelargoniums (including angel pelargoniums), ferns, ivies, hardy geraniums, tuberous begonias, hibiscus and conservatory plants, is to close in September 2023. The owners are set to retire.

"After 50 plus years of trading we would like to be able to close the nursery and find good homes for all the plants," says one of the current owners, Angela Tandy. "Anyone want to buy a small pelargonium nursery?".

Fibrex was established by Hazel & Dick Key 64 years ago and is still run as a family business by their children. All of the plants are grown on site, near Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire. In addition to the nursery, there is a popular and longstanding mail order service. The nursery has been a regular on the flower show circuit for over 50 years, and has garnered a raft of medals.

The nursery was home to two National Collections, Pelargoniums and Hedera (ivy). These were recently moved to the RHS and have been split between their five gardens – Wisley, Rosemoor, Harlow Carr, Hyde Hall and the new Bridgewater.

For now, the nursery and website are still running. The nursery will take orders for pelargoniums from 3 October 2022 for dispatch from March 2023. Hardy geraniums, hibiscus, ferns, ivies and conservatory plants will be available for shipping from 26 September 2022. Tuberous begonias go on sale for the last time from 12th September 2022.

The nursery advises keeping an eye on social media, emails and its website for offers and the sale of the nursery's more unique varieties over the next 12 months.
